Skewers
1633 P St NW
Pretty good, but not special middle eastern food with nice, but not special decor and atmosphere.
Kabobs ran about $17-$20, appetizers about $7-8. We had Lamb and Lamb Kufta kabobs, which came with a choice of three sides of Hummus, Baba Gannouj, Tabouleh, Eggplant salad. As a party of three we managed to cover all four. Pretty good. The kabobs themselves were fairly small, but the sides and pita make it a decent sized meal overall.
Service was good, but it was pretty empty - rainy weeknight.
Overall, worth going back to if in the area.

Went in here with a group, had Scoutmob for it. Got butternut squash and goat cheese ravioli $14.95. Solid, but unremarkable and not a big portion. Other entrees looked much larger and ran around $10 for burgers and such. Someone got a dessert cake and it was pretty ordinary and not especially worth it.
Not an upscale atmosphere, service was spotty, especially considering there weren't many there - although we were inside and most of them were in the small outdoor area.
Overall, not a bad place for a less expensive meal, but nothing destination-worthy.

Braised Cheek ($9) was quite good, Charred Belly ($9) was okay. Big Pig platter ($36) was pretty good. The Sundae ($6) was fairly good, but weird, had homogenized pig's blood in it, which made it kind of viscous for ice cream. Not a bad place, different, but probably not good enough considering the prices.

I went to Cheesetique with some friends to try their free wine, which is basically samples from 1-4pm on Saturdays. We also got dinner.
First, the wines were pretty good and ranged in price from $12 to $23 a bottle - so it wasn't just cheap stuff. The most expensive wine was not particularly good though, but one of the less expensive whites was really good.
Anyway, for the meal I started out with a grilled cheese - Gjetost and Bananna - Gjetost cheese with banana on cranberry walnut bread - $8. It was very good. Not amazing, but very good. What was amazing was my friends' macaroni and cheese - Mac 'N Cheesetique - Goat Gouda, Asiago, and 30-day Pecorino topped with truffle-infused bread crumbs - $9. It was amazing. After trying theirs, I couldn't resist ordering a goat cheese mac and cheese. The menu may have changed since our meal because I thought I got a three-goat-cheese mac and cheese, but the menu has listed "Billy Goat" - Chevre, Drunken Goat, chicken and penne topped with Bucheron - $9. It was very, very good, although not as good as theirs. I do not remember what grilled cheese they each got, but both said they were quite good. The wines with dinner were pretty good and the selection is pretty good.
Service and ambiance were good as usual. We sat in the front part of the restaurant by the bar and not the expanded back section.

I ate here and had the Koo 'sa Mahshi - yellow squash stuffed with lamb, rice, and spices in a tomato sauce. It was solid, but not remarkable. It was on the bland side. My dinner companion had a regular kabob and said it was pretty good, although a couple pieces were far too rare. They were $16 and $19 respectively with most dinner entrees being in that range.
As an appetizer we had Labneh - farmer's cheese made from yogurt in olive oil. It was good, but not remarkable.
The best attribute of this restaurant was the decor and ambiance. While it felt a little old inside somehow, the restaurant had nice streams of water, walls of plants dividing the space, ornate globes hanging from the ceiling, and nice patterns. The restaurant overall seemed to be a deep red shade, which was a little odd. We had a nice window seat.
The service was good, friendly, and helpful. The restaurant was not too busy at the time.
Overall, I might try it again - perhaps my dish just wasn't the best, but Astor Mediterranean and Lebanese Taverna were better.
